YEAR: 2023
TEAM:
Vlad Goldakovskiy, David Goldakovskyi, Daria Botsion
AREA: 200m2
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
PLUS CAFÉ is an architectural project that merges gastronomy, culture, and design in the historic district of Podil, Kyiv. The core idea of the space is to create an open yet precisely structured environment where architecture becomes an integral part of the dining experience.
Spatial Concept
The architecture of PLUS CAFÉ emphasizes openness while maintaining a clear functional organization. The central feature of the space is a cylindrical volume that houses technical areas, including staff facilities and restrooms. This element serves multiple purposes:
Spatial zoning, creating a distinct separation between the guest area and service spaces.
Functional integration, ensuring an efficient yet discreet infrastructure.
Visual landmark, acting as a focal point within the interior and serving as a dynamic surface for advertisements.
Materials and Sustainable Design
The project is rooted in circular design principles, emphasizing material reuse. The interior features:
Reclaimed Soviet-era tiles, sourced from construction salvage sites, reinforcing the historical connection and adding texture to the space.
Vintage Soviet-era lighting fixtures, which enhance the atmosphere while contributing to the sustainability narrative.
Aesthetic and Atmosphere
The interior design blends industrial aesthetics with warm, tactile materials, striking a balance between rawness and comfort. The space is designed to be both open and structured, allowing visitors to experience the architecture as an essential part of their dining journey.
PLUS CAFÉ is not just a restaurant—it is an architectural experiment that fuses functionality, sustainability, and cultural memory, creating a space for contemporary urban life.
